Chemical Composition

The chemical composition of sheet metal alloys affects their stamping and drawing capabilities, corrosion resistance, and welding and joining requirements. Fabricators order specific grades of sheet metal because their properties match the needs of the product application. The simplest way to confirm a product is within specification for the selected grade and includes minimal allowable impurities, is to do a chemistry check. Using optical emission spectroscopy (OES), also known as spark testing, it is possible to accurately determine the composition percentage of numerous elements within your sample.
